DEFINITION & PURPOSE
A Notary Public is a person who holds a commission from the Secretary of State, witnesses signature,s and verifies identities of signers. A Notary Public must be impartial. Through the verification and notarization process, notaries can deter fraud and establish that the signer acknowledges signing the document and question, as well as verifying that the information in the document is true and correct.
Some documents that may need to be notarized include the following: DMV Titles, Powers of Attorney, Deeds of Trust, Last Will and Testament, Quit Claim Deeds, Divorce Documents, I-9 Forms, Affidavits, Beneficiary Deeds and more
Purchase Packages (Conventional, FHA and VA Loans), Seller Packages, Refinances, Cash Closings, Home Equity Line of Credit (HELOC)
In order to notarize and verify your identity and signature, you must personally appear before the notary. Also, have a current ID (this could be a Driver’s License, State Issued Identification Card, U.S. Passport, Armed Forces Identification Card, or Tribal Government Identification Card with Photo).
In order to expedite the signing process, please fill out all documents completely, but do NOT sign them until the notary arrives to witness your signature. Some documents need a witness. If that is the case, your witness also needs ID.
